Ed Callahan

Youngquist Brothers, Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Ed Callahan as Director of Log Quality Control for the Geophysical Logging Division. Ed has been with Youngquist Brothers for the last 17 years. Ed graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1973.

Ed began his career with Welex (a Halliburton Company) in 1974. He worked as a logging field engineer in the Rocky Mountain Division. In 1979 he was promoted to the Denver Division office where as a Senior Log Analyst he was in charge of Log Quality Control and Log Interpretation. His duties included the training of employees, customers, and hundreds college students that had invited him as a guest lecturer.

Ed was an active member of the Society of Professional Well Log Analysts and served as President of the Denver chapter in 1982.

Ed left Welex and joined a smaller independent logging company, Great Guns, in 1985. He worked in the Kansas and Oklahoma field offices before being transferred to the Tulsa manufacturing center where he was in charge of Log Quality Control. While with Great Guns he was assigned to Paris for 2 years to help start a joint venture between Great Guns and CGG.

Youngquist Brothers offered Ed the job of General Manager of Florida Geophysical Logging in 1994. Ed held this position until 2000. During these 6 years Ed brought the Acoustic Borehole Televiewer tool to Florida to help in the detection of fractures. He also developed the “Log Derived TDS Plot” used to identify the USDW. He first presented this technique to the Everglades Geological Society in December of 1996.

After building Florida Geophysical Logging into the premier logging company in Florida and selecting and training his replacement he moved on to help the company in other areas. In 2002 Ed was the lead electrical and automation engineer for the $50,000,000 rock quarry that Youngquist Brothers Rock built on Alico Road in Fort Myers. Most recently Ed was in charge of the Automation and Drive design for the new class of Electric Rigs (E-Rigs) that Youngquist brothers introduced in 2008.

We believe that Ed’s dedication to Log Quality and over 26 years of experience in the well logging industry will be a HUGE asset to the Geophysical Logging Division.
